USB flash drives are small plastic devices that can connect to the computer through the USB port and have the capacity to write and copy data from an internal flash memory chip. As against the function of a hard drive of a computer, USB drives provide the freedom of portability and are much smaller, faster and more durable.

Some flash drives may require extra drivers to be installed on a computer to function, effectively. When the system is used to play arcade games, it is required to transfer high scores, screen shots, dance edits and combos throughout the session.

The storage capacities of USB flash drives are different, ranging from low capacity to as high as 32 GB which may cost around three hundred dollars and are more expensive than a portable hard drive of high memory capacity.

USB flash drives have many advantages over floppy disk such as greater speed, better reliability and better portability. In addition, flash drives are solid state devices and hence are protected against scratches, and can withstand moderately, even if they are accidently dropped on stepped on.

Another safety feature of USB flash is that they have encrypted data which means the data cannot be read by another individual, in the event of the drive being lost. USB memory 1 GB flash drives also serve as a good alternative to CDs and DVDs to send e- brochures, data packs and other types of files. But, the only downside of flash drive is their limited capacity and slow data transfer speeds.
