The computer after a period of time will become slow. This may be mainly due to the shortage of availability of the Random Access Memory. The Random Access Memory otherwise called as RAM in short form is utilized by the computer for storing the data. This data will be processed by the CPU or Central Processing Unit of the computer. CPU is called as the processor of the computer.

The speed of the computer can be increased by the user after installing the Random Access Memory chips. The same can be purchased from the shops. The installation of the same is quite easy and also not costly in these days. It is always essential to have a minimum of 1 GB RAM. This will work for many years on the computer and the user will not have much difficulty in storing the data. Many programs can be operated simultaneously with this 1GB RAM. The RAM will be functioning on the computer when the computer is used for working with the files or for software running.

When the user increased the RAM in his computer, he can easily make out the difference in the speed of the computer by the time taken in copying the files or the folders before and after installing the RAM. Thus the fine way in making the computer to function faster is to add the memory.

The user cannot increase the memory of his computer when it is installed with Windows 95 or Windows 98. The computer will not identify any RAM more than 256MB. Hence to increase the RAM of the computer, the user has to upgrade the operating system in his computer either to Windows 2000 or Windows XP before purchasing the new RAM.
