The flash drive is a device of storage. The flash memory is used in it than the traditional spinning platters for the purpose of storing data. This flash drive just imitates the traditional hard drives in shape, interface and the size. It is thus become a replacement of the hard drives.

These flash memories inclined to fail after the usage of around million writing and thus make it unusable. To solve this problem, many people try to transfer the data to a safe place for preserving. Back up battery system is not required for the flash drives.

The flash drives can run in the operating systems with less weight that are designed particularly for converting the personal computer into a network computer. When the same is done with the firewalls and the routers, it will be much expensive. The system can be booted through a flash drive with write protection. The booting can be done from the floppy disk, conventional hard drive or a CD. It will be wise if the flash memory is chosen as it consumes less power and also has a minimal rate of failure.

The population of flash drives is only limited till the year 2006. This turned around due to the decrease in the cost and the increase in need for the same. The flash memory also has some problems like the hard disks. There are no mobile parts and thus it is of a solid state quality device. Thus it is more genuine and also fast than the other disks. The limitation is that the rewriting facility is not huge. In short, it is a very good power storage as the data will be preserved as it is even when the power is out.
